ApHC Board Opposes Horse Slaughter Prevention Act In January of this year, the ApHC announced that it opposes the Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. (Click here for the complete ApHC statement.) While the Keystone Appaloosa Club board of directors does not feel that it is appropriate to announce a position on this legislation, we do feel that all horse owners should be aware of the pending legislation and express your feelings to your US Senators. The main goal of the bill is to eliminate the slaughter of horses for food. Currently, approximately 90,000 horses per year are slaughtered for human consumption (most being shipped out of the country). The bill has undergone numerous amendments.
