To whom it may concern:
Recently, an e-mail containing inaccurate information has been circulated.
Attached you will find that e-mail and the initial results of an ApHC
investigation. As was the case with the "knee-jerk" reaction to the
BOD's
consideration of a move from OKC, information that is considerably short
of
accurate
is taken as gospel by individuals objecting to change regardless of their
motivation.

Subject: Jackson Mississipppi
Hey Rob,
I am very, very concerned for the Appaloosa Youth World and
Nationals to
be
moved to Jackson, Mississippi!
This past week end at the Quarter Horse Dixie National Show we had two
Georgia youth riders ages 16 and 17 abducted from the Texaco Gas station
right in front of the show grounds. It was 10 PM at night, the girls
were coming to
ride in the arena with their coach Glen Wells of Georgia. The girls
stopped to buy a coke before riding and were approached, one youth was pulled
from
the drivers side of the suburban, beaten, knocked unconscious and thrown in
the
back of the car. Meanwhile the men drove away with both girls,
touching
and threatening the girls. After driving away from the show grounds
for about
an hour and a half the men were driving to their "destination point" at a
high
rate of speed. FORTUNATELY a policeman saw the car speeding,
radioed to
another police car and the car was pulled over. The girls jumped out
and
ran to the police car. The two men were taken into custody. The
girls suffered
head injuries, a broken hand and are forever emotionally scarred.
The very next morning at the Best Western hotel (a new one), our customer
Debbie Lisbeth had her truck broken into with everything stolen out of it,
including the original papers to her horse. In addition right after the
police left Debbie, she walked outside and her tool box had been broken into
within 10 minutes of speaking to the police.
At the same show, a youth mother was driving her golf cart from her living
quarters horse trailer ( in the morning) and an unknown man jumped on her
cart and made her take him for a ride. She panicked, jumped off the cart
and
started screaming. The man then jumped off and ran.
The local business owners won't report these crimes for fear of lack
of
business.
In closing when asked to announce safety concerns to the exhibitors, the
response given was that these girls should not have been driving at 10 o
clock at night and that the mom that had the unknown man jump on the golf cart
should have been more careful.
The facilities did have sheriffs in golf carts and walking around the
grounds, to no delay did this keep the predators away. It seems as though
it was a "challenge" for criminals.
On another note, the grounds were dark, dirty and unmanaged. The make
up
arena outside was so deep many horses became sore and lame. While
others
chose to ride in the parking lot to save the stress on their horses legs.
(We
chose this method). The make up pens are far to small and the stalls
are
horrible. (The knobs on the stalls to open the stalls were missing and
stolen, said the maintenance man). We had to tie a wire to get into our
stall.
In my professional opinion, moving the Appaloosa Youth World and Nationals
will kill this wonderful show.
I will not take our 30 stalls to this facility and risk the health and
safety of our riders, parents, myself and our horses.
The QH Dixie Nationals was way down in numbers this year and has steadily
declined in the prior years. (One of the only reasons it still exists is
because of the money the city gives to the show to keep it there) We will
not go back next year.
So whatever we can do or say at this point we need to!! This place
and
criminal activity will kill our business and possible one of us!
Sincerely,
Mary Meneely

Dear Board Members -
It was recently brought to my attention that an e-mail is being circulated
regarding an alleged abduction of two teenage girls during the Dixie
Nationals in Jackson, MS. Pursuant to that notification, I have attempted
to
determine the validity of that claim. Though I am still waiting on a fax
from the police station in Jackson to confirm these findings, the
following
information has been provided to me by Mike Brinkley. I hope to receive
the
fax tomorrow and will leave instructions that it be forwarded to each of
you
as further confirmation of Mike's report.
Mike found information pertaining to an incident during the Dixie
Nationals
in which two white females got into a vehicle with two black males. They
left and were pulled over for a traffic violation in Ridgeland, MS - about
15+ miles from Jackson. The girls exited the vehicle and claimed to have
been abducted. Upon investigation, the police found that the girls' cell
phones contained the phone numbers for the boys they were with and that
the
boys' cell phones contained the girls' phone numbers. The girls later
admitted to falsely claiming they were abducted so that their parents
wouldn't find out that they were voluntarily with the two black males. No
charges were filed in the matter.
Again, as soon as I get written confirmation, a copy of that will be
forwarded to you.
The e-mail circulating about this incident further claims that there
were
vehicles broken into and papers and other valuables stolen. Though I have
no
direct knowledge of these specific incidents, this would not surprise me
as
this is a common occurance during horse shows. Almost without fail, there
are thefts at each and every National Show in OKC and World Show in Ft.
Worth in which vehicles are broken into, papers and tack stolen or other
valuables looted. This also happens at the show grounds in spite of our
increased security during the events.
Similar incidents happened in Ft. Worth last year and also happened in OKC.
During the World Show last year, the rear window was broken out of one of
the judge's vehicles at their hotel and property stolen. There was an
incident in OKC reported last year where one of our exhibitors was dragged
from his truck at his hotel at gunpoint and was robbed but not hurt. I was
notified yesterday by an ApHC member that their vehicle was broken into
and
papers stolen while at a horse show in San Antonio the past weekend. This
is
a common problem at all large horse shows and exhibitors must take extra
precautions to avoid similar incidents.
I will continue to investigate allegations as they arise. You may feel
free
to circulate this information freely. Again, I will provide a copy of the
written statement from the Jackson police dept. upon receipt.
